UK Condemns Security Breach of S Jaishankar in London, India Demands Strong Action

London/New Delhi: The United Kingdom has strongly condemned the security breach involving India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in London. The incident occurred when a pro-Khalistani protester attempted to break security barricades while others shouted anti-India slogans as Mr. Jaishankar exited Chatham House, home to the Royal Institute of International Affairs, after an interactive session.

The Metropolitan Police swiftly intervened, preventing any escalation. The UK Foreign Office has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of visiting dignitaries and has warned that any attempt to intimidate or threaten diplomats is unacceptable.

India Condemns the Security Breach

Reacting to the incident, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly condemned the actions of the separatist group. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated:

“We have seen the footage of the security breach during the visit of the External Affairs Minister to the UK. We condemn the provocative activities of this small group of separatists and extremists. We deplore the misuse of democratic freedoms by such elements. We expect the host government to fully uphold their diplomatic obligations.”

Pro-Khalistani Protesters and Security Lapse

Social media videos showed a small group of Khalistani protesters holding yellow flags and chanting slogans against India and S Jaishankar. As the minister was about to leave, a tall protester was seen attempting to break the police cordon and approach the motorcade. He was immediately restrained and taken away by UK police officers.

Repeated Security Concerns in the UK

This is not the first instance of security being compromised by Khalistani elements in the UK. In March 2023, Khalistani supporters pulled down the Indian national flag at the Indian High Commission in London, triggering a strong diplomatic reaction from India.

Following that incident, India summoned the senior-most British diplomat in New Delhi and demanded an explanation for the security failure. Since then, India has repeatedly urged the UK government to take strict action against Khalistani elements operating from British soil.

India Seeks Assurances on Diplomatic Security

India has once again raised concerns over the lack of adequate security measures for its diplomats and officials in the UK. The Indian government expects Britain to prevent such incidents in the future and take appropriate action against those responsible for security breaches.

As India-UK relations continue to evolve, diplomatic security remains a key concern, and India has reiterated its demand for concrete measures to prevent further provocations by extremist groups.
